Did you know that our bed and breakfast is 30 years old? That makes us a Millennial, something we think is worth celebrating. Millennials are known for many unique qualities like their innate tech-savviness, their desire for professional growth, unwavering personal confidence, and their style preferences. And among Millennials, the “grandma chic” style is trending with those who identify as having an older soul.

The Holladay House has always been popular with Millennials for celebrating milestone birthdays, elegant elopements, and unforgettable girls’ getaways. Although it’s also been a favorite with those who love history, the Holladay House is currently gaining popularity for another great reason – it’s appeal among Grandmillennials.

While there are herds of Millennials that want to drink rosé all day on unicorn pool floats to capture the perfect Instagram photo, there are just as many who find the same pleasure sitting on historic couches in traditional jewel-toned rooms. Grandmillennials can also be classified as “new traditionalists” according to this recent article on House Beautiful, because of their appreciation of the past, particularly in regard to style.

The Holladay House identifies as a Grandmillennial, proven by the historic influences found throughout the property. Have you seen the John Madison Suite or Helen’s Haven? The John Madison Suite features a wardrobe that still has the train ticket stapled behind it from when it traveled to the House in 1899, and the built-in closet in Helen’s Haven is from 1910. These aren’t the only places throughout the Inn featuring original woodwork and twentieth-century furniture, where you can enjoy local beer or wine while reading on a tablet.

The Oak Room includes the oak desk that Helen Holladay used in the early 1900s. The modern comforts of fluffy pillows, soft throws and comfy couches throughout the Holladay House are used to complement the original and classic architectural details like the wood floors. So many of the special places throughout the inn have a story like the desk for the Southpaw that was in the Blue Room and the sideboard in the dining room as payment to Dr. Holladay for delivering a healthy baby.

More than the style of the Holladay House being the perfect vibe for older-soul Millennials, the location in Orange, Virginia is ideal for history-loving Grandmillennials to spend a long weekend. The Constitution Package is a great fit for those with Grandmillennial style because you can follow Constitution Highway and tour historic presidential mansions loaded with traditional touches. There is also a curatorial tour at Montpelier focused solely on the high-end style of the Madisons.

Guests of the Holladay House can also take a guided driving tour to visit some of the Civil War battlefields with an Orange County documentarian and author. Nearby, guests can enjoy local beer, wine, and food at various establishments (check out this post on where to drink, and this one on where to eat), before returning to the Holladay House and passing Holladay family photos on the way to their room.

While we would tell you there’s never a bad time to visit, Spring is one of the best times to take a trip out to Orange and stay with us. Not only can Grandmillennials feel perfectly at home in our house, the shopping downtown can help Grandmillennials find the perfect pieces to make their own home more “grandma chic” but with meaning and sentiment.
