As fall approaches, our stomachs start to growl for crisp vegetables, warm breakfasts, and homemade treats. At the Holladay House, we take farm-to-fork literally and love supporting local farms, even those in our own family and our own backyard. Additionally, when you spend a weekend with us, there are tons of local dining options that also serve up farm-fresh fare for your enjoyment.

We grow elderberries in our gardens. The fruit course at breakfast often showcases our homemade elderflower syrup drizzled over locally-grown fruit.  With the award-winning Holladay Family Buttermilk Biscuits, our homemade elderberry jelly is the perfect compliment. It also happens to make a wonderful hostess gift and is available for purchase in our gift shop. Lastly, we pair our homemade honey-spiced elderberry compote with our house-made vanilla cream-filled crepes.

Our guests love our crust-less quiche which includes a variety of herbs grown on-site.  Our backyard boasts three types of sage, two varieties of thyme, dill, winter savory, and French tarragon. We also grow the culinary lavender that gently scents our scones in the Tea Time upgrade.

The first breakfast course at the Holladay House is always a fruit course.  We source from a number of places: our own blueberries and strawberries; our family garden located just outside of town for watermelon and cantaloupe, and local farms for other delicious fruit. We use it all for some creative first courses each morning.

The second breakfast course is always a hot entrée course. Our eggs, amazing thick-cut bacon, and garnish all come from local farms. We even purchase our oats, flour, and other dry goods from local stores like Hartland Farms and Yoder’s Country Market. You can find a full list of our farm-to-fork finds here.

For all of the other complementary treats our guests enjoy not grown from the soil, we locally-source as well. Our signature blend coffee is roasted weekly for us by Orange County Roasters.  All our complimentary wine and craft beer are regional and even our natural soaps are crafted here in Orange, Virginia.

We love providing our guests with the finest quality food and drinks from some of the best farms in Central Virginia for a one-of-a-kind experience. If you think all of this sounds delicious, then consider us for Thanksgiving, when we really feast with farm fresh food.
