The Holladay House offers two porches for all of our guests to enjoy, but we had been keeping one a secret. The Ivy Suite has a private porch and we decided it was finally time to add some Southern hospitality to this secret spot. With the help and vision of Genesis, our Assistant Innkeeper, we transformed this antiquated porch to its former glory, while sticking to a budget.

When first opening the door to this area, it was begging for a little love and attention. After pressure washing the old brick and lattice, our nook was already beginning to come to life. To begin decorating, we picked up a red outdoor rug and the quintessential outdoor southern furniture piece: a porch swing. We styled the swing with comfy pillows and a red throw blanket to brighten up the space and included a mirrored window frame in one red brick corner. This worked particularly well to enhance the space.

At The Holladay House we always support our local businesses as much as possible and this project was no exception. Wooden chairs from Lam Brother’s, a local woodworking company, and a table from D&J’s thrift shop in Orange made the space even more functional for our guests to have a snack, read, or play a game. Working with our local businesses and antique shops really helped us find unique and historical pieces while sticking to a modest budget.

We finished up the project by mulching around the patio, planting white Impatiens and clearing away leaves and debris, revealing a stone path that adds so much character to our little porch. Sam built the sign out of old timber from the Inn, and Shadow, our feline resident, gave the patio a glowing inspection.

This project has brought great joy to The Holladay House and we can’t wait for our guests to enjoy it. This inviting area of the B&B is beckoning guests to enjoy a glass of local wine or a fresh cup of our unique coffee blend from Orange County Coffee Roasters. For so long, this area has been invisible to passersby, and we knew this was the perfect opportunity to turn it into an outdoor oasis for future guests of The Holladay House to enjoy! Let us know if you’d like to book a stay in the Ivy Suite for your next Holladay.
