Blue Will Soothe Your Soul
Like the John Madison Suite, the Blue Room is one of the original bedrooms in the house, and it still has all of its original woodwork, window glass, and a Federal-style wooden mantel piece. Over the course of its 180 year history, the Blue Room’s solid brick walls have brought rest to the weary and sheltered countless family members and wayfarers. In the winter of 1864, after the Confederate army retreated to Orange following its crushing defeat at Gettysburg, occupants of this room would have heard the resounding merriment of Emma Chapman’s wedding reception downstairs, attended by the dashing Brigadier General J.E.B. Stuart! (You can read all about this on our Bed and Breakfast History page).
Throughout the 1900s, the Holladay family used this room as a formal parlor because Dr. Holladay’s medical practice and other subsequent businesses used much of the downstairs living space. As Sharon’s favorite guest room, this spacious room includes a queen-sized tester bed, romantically draped with airy white curtains, next to the original fireplace and mantel (now equipped with a heated electric fireplace). Two rocking chairs face the TV/DVD player and desk. The private bathroom includes a tub/shower combination, and is only two steps across the hallway. We furnish you with luxurious robes for your convenience.
Some of the antique furnishings in this room are Holladay family heirlooms and have been in the Holladay House Bed and Breakfast for over a century. This inn accommodation has plenty of historic charm, but the history is classy and not over-bearing.
